Pull any contact field into the subject and body: name, company, city, renewal date. One template speaks to each reader as an individual, not a list.
Send from a segment built on tags, activity or fields, so new customers, loyal ones and quiet ones each get the version that fits them.
Open the recipient preview and read the exact copy an individual contact will get, filled fields and all, so you catch a stray placeholder before your whole audience does.
Email personalization is the practice of tailoring an email to the individual who receives it, rather than sending one identical message to everyone. It ranges from putting a contact's first name in the subject line to sending different content to different segments based on what you know about each person, such as their location, their tags or how they have engaged before.
Open a campaign, place your cursor where you want a personal detail, and insert a variable such as first name from the contact fields. The variable stays a placeholder while you write and fills in with each contact's real value at send. You can also send from a segment so the whole message, not just the greeting, matches that group.
You set a fallback for every variable, for example first name or there. When a contact has no value for that field, the fallback is used instead, so the sentence still reads naturally and no recipient ever sees an empty gap where their name should be.
They use the same merge fields. Mail merge describes the mechanics of turning one draft into thousands of individual copies by filling in variables. Personalization is the wider goal of making each email relevant, which includes merge fields plus sending the right content to the right segment. You can read more on the mail merge page.
Yes. The recipient preview lists every individual who will receive the campaign and shows the exact copy each one gets, with their fields filled in. It is the last check before you send, so you can catch a stray placeholder or an odd fallback before your whole audience sees it.
