Create a signup form

Build a signup form in Mailsoftly, style it to match your brand, set up how submissions behave, then publish and embed it on your own website.

A signup form is the simplest way to turn website visitors into subscribers. In Mailsoftly you can build one, style it to match your brand, decide what happens after someone submits, and drop it onto any page.

This guide walks you from an empty form to a published, embeddable one. Each step shows the exact screen you will see along the way.

Open your signup forms

Head to the Forms area to see every form you have and to start a new one. A Total counter sits at the top, and two tabs let you switch between your Forms and ready made Form templates. Press Create new form to open the starting point chooser, then pick Start from Scratch to design your own or the Signup Form option that lets people choose the emails they get. Once a form exists it opens with a row of tabs across the top: Build, Style, Settings, Share, and Submissions. Those tabs are your workflow for the rest of this guide.

Create a new form, then lay out its fields.

Add the Email Subscriptions field

Open the Build tab to arrange your fields. Alongside name and email, the Email Subscriptions field lets people pick which of your email subscriptions they want, one checkbox each. The field editor lists your subscriptions so you can remove the ones this form should not offer or reword the labels, and subscribers see each description under its checkbox. If you have linked any subscription to a contact list on the preference page, the editor also spells out what the checkboxes do, naming each linked subscription and the list it feeds, with a manage link to the preference page where the wiring lives.

When someone submits the form, every linked subscription they checked adds them to its list automatically, so a single form checkbox grows the right list with no manual import. You manage which subscription feeds which list on the preference page, covered in Design your preference center.

Note

Checking a box only ever adds someone to a list. Leaving it unchecked, or a later opt-out, never removes anyone from a linked list.

With your fields in place, make the form look like yours.

Style your form to match your brand

Open the Style tab and use the paint brush button to open the Style panel that slides in from the side. It has two tabs, Field Style and Form Style, so you can shape both the input boxes and the frame around them. Under Theme you get a brand swatch built from your own colors, an Apply brand theme button that recolors the button, panel, and background at once, a row of ready made themes, and an option to theme from any color you paste in. The preview updates live as you go, so you always see the finished form. Press Update Form Style to keep your changes.

When the look feels right, decide what the form should actually do.

Set up submissions and behavior

Switch to the Settings tab, titled Form Settings, to control what happens after someone signs up. Each option is a simple switch. Turn on reCAPTCHA to block spam bots, use Assign a tag to label new contacts (you can even create a new tag inline), and switch on Add to contact list to drop them straight into the list you choose. Notify on submission emails a chosen teammate each time someone signs up. The Redirect option sends people to a URL of your choice after the success message, with an extra checkbox to also redirect when the form is embedded. Your changes save as you set them.

Tip

Point new signups at a list that feeds a welcome automation. That way every person who submits the form gets a friendly first email while their interest is fresh.

Publish and grab your embed code

Open the Share tab to put your form out into the world. Mailsoftly gives you several ready to paste options: a Direct Link you can send anywhere, an iFrame or JavaScript snippet to embed on your site, a Popup Window, a QR Code for print, and a WordPress plugin shortcut. Each block has its own Copy Code button, so you grab exactly the format your site needs and paste it in. You can return to restyle or adjust the settings at any time.

Each of those channels has its own settings, and the popup, the QR sheet and the email signature button are worth setting up properly rather than pasting and hoping: Share and embed your signup form goes through all nine. Once people start filling it in, Read and export your form submissions shows you what each one answered.

Note

If the Share tab asks you to verify your domain first, authenticate your sending domain and the sharing options unlock. That check keeps forms tied to domains you actually own.
